Cherry Blossoms in Okinawa
Another incidence is when hurricane hit Okinawa in 2000.
I have been trying to go to Okinawa many years. At that time, there was a three years waiting list. That is how popular it is. Finally I decided to put my name on the waiting list. That summer in July I have got a call from the best hotel in Okinawa, which is the same hotel where G7 meeting took place in 2000. It was a brand new hotel, the best hotel in Okinawa then. They gave me private suit, which is 2500 USD a night for 400 USD. It has an indoor swimming pool, by the beach, with a nice view Okinawa bay and everything. The reason they offered that price was because they had a hurricane warning and the hurricane was going to Okinawa. I said OK, no problem. I asked how I got this reservation booked at such a good rate. The Japanese people are very honest people. The guy on the phone said to me, everybody is cancelling because a big hurricane is coming. So he said, I am going to give you a very good rate, because of the hurricane. I said I am taking it. He wanted double check and asked are you sure, even though there was hurricane warning. I said to him, I am a guy who missed death so many times that there is no way in hell the hurricane is going to hit me. The hurricane hit Okinawa and that hotel the day after I left. Then I left Japan then went to Taiwan. Similar story happened in Taiwan. The same hurricane hit Taiwan, 200 people died there. The hurricane hit Taiwan at the same day, two hours after I left Taiwan.
